The Surrender at Yorktown was in important part to U.S. history. In late September 18,000 soldiers surrounded Lord Charles Cornwallis. Cornwallis was the leader of the British army. In July of 1780, the French and the American's were made to join together under George Washington. On October 16, 1781 Cornwallis tried to escape, but a storm came and drove him back. The next day he had to asked for surrender do to no supplies or bullets. Soldiers then also asked for surrender to the song "The world turned upside down". They almost ended the war but it went on for two more years.
The world turned upside down.
"If buttercups buzz'd after the bee,
If boats were on land, churches at sea,
If ponies rode men, and if grass ate the cows,
And cats be chased into holes by the mouse,
If mamma's sold their babies for half a crown,
Then all of the world would be upside down."
